Science And The Church
Some within the religious community feel that science is out to destroy or undermine religion or that is in direct conflict. Science does not seek to destroy any Religion. Science and scientists seek one thing, the correct answer, the truth to a given question. whether that answer corroborates or refutes a prevailing theory or proposition is irrelevant. That is it. No more. No less. True there have been some that try to massage figures or experiments for their own personal gain; they are destined to be uncovered or found out due to peer review. Other scientists from across the world are always ready to review, experiment and try to reproduce the same results. If the results differ then more and more scientists and institutions look into the matter until it is resolved.
Science does not make philosophical, ideological, religious, or moral claims. All science is based on probability, some say that this is not scientific. It is. Science actually has three laws of probability along with chaos theory. A Theory is a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.
The criteria within Science means that everything is classed as a theory. From the Big Bang Theory, Kepler's Laws of motion, Newtons Universal law of gravity to Archimedes buoyancy principle, they are all considered to be Theories. Proven many times over with peer review but they will always be classified as theories. I doubt there are many people who would say that the theory of gravity is unproven and be willing to walk off a tall building to prove science wrong. Once something has been proven it is then used as the current model.
This is where the propaganda machine within some parts of the religious community like to shout and scream that Darwin's Theory of Evolution is not proven, it is just a theory therefore it is wrong and meaningless. The theory's of Gravity and Darwin's Theory Of Evolution have been shown to be correct, with many repeatable, demonstrable experiments. And so, a pseudo science is born. Used to try and refute or distort a scientific fact. Basically science is wrong because it conflicts with my belief in x or y so I reject this proof as it is only a theory. This then seemly Legitimizes this point of view.
The relationship between science and religion is a very widely debated subject, but historically both the Muslim world and the Catholic Church had been a patron of sciences. It was once at the very core of scientific discovery. The Muslim world discovered and invented many things from coffee, the toothbrush, medicine and hospitals, optics, Algebra, to music and carpets. They initially had the worlds first Universities set up to teach science but then around the 14th to 16th centuries this began to decline. The catholic church was also instrumental in sciences taking over the mantle around this time. Indeed many clergy within the catholic church have made phenomenal scientific discoveries from around the 13th century onward. The catholic church were the foundation and funding of schools, universities and hospitals. The current pontiff, Pope Francis has embraced science as a way of learning about the world. Notably, his encyclical has urged people to care more for the environment and climate change.

Science began to develop well Before Christianity, constantly refined and expanded on until today we can communicate with anyone on earth at any time, We can learn things without relying on a specific person who wished to give only their point of view. we can travel anywhere again at almost any time, we can save the lives of millions that was unheard of even 50 years ago.
It is interesting to note that in the Islamic world as their religion gained momentum science dwindled The Islamic world population in 2021 is 1.8 billion. Today the proportion of Islamic scientists around the world is now less than 1.0 % of the scientific community.
The Catholic world population is 1.329 Billion. Today the proportion of scientists who identify as catholic is 10% of the scientific community.
In 2020 the estimated figure for scientists in the world was about 8.8 Million.
Of course there are many many other religions who are represented within the scientific community. BUT AND IT IS A HUGE BUT!, All these different religious scientists use proven scientific principles to evaluate, postulate and theorize within their field of study. No scientist would be taken seriously if they put forward a theory that x or y was the way it was because their god used it's miraculous omnipotent powers to make it so. They would be laughed out of their job and quite probably never work in their field again. They might believe god is real and made everything but they would not use religion to prove any point, they would use science.

THE SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION
As science grew it came into conflict with the church. Science was very often in direct contradiction to the teachings of the church.
The church hierarchy felt under attack. If science was shown to undermining the teachings of the church, if the church was proved to be wrong then this would weakening the churches position. The Roman Catholic Church could not and would not let this happen. This was Heresy and blasphemy. The Inquisition was a powerful office set up within the Catholic Church to root out and punish heresy and blasphemy throughout Europe and the Americas. Beginning in the 12th century and continuing for hundreds of years, the Inquisition is infamous for the severity of its tortures and its persecution of of anyone that taught anything that differed from the Teachings of the church, including that of other faiths.

In 1022, people who were considered heretics were burned for the first time since antiquity. The Inquisitions were judicial institutions or tribunals that were established by the Roman Catholic Church in order to seek out, try, and sentence people that the Roman Catholic Church believed to be guilty of THEIR made up laws of heresy. The purpose of the inquisitions was to secure and maintain religious and doctrinal unity in the Roman Catholic Church and throughout the Holy Roman Empire.
Historians generally distinguish the Inquisitions based on four different time frames and areas that they took place in. These are the Medieval or Episcopal Inquisition, the Spanish Inquisition, the Portuguese Inquisition, and the Roman Inquisition.
The last period, the Roman Inquisition was established in 1542 when Pope Paul III established the Holy Office as the final court of appeals in all trials of heresy. The cardinals and other officials whose task was to maintain and defend the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church played an important role in the Counter-Reformation, and it was also this body that condemned Galileo for “grave suspicion of heresy” Galileo supported the Copernicus theory that the Earth orbits the sun as do all the planets. This was in direct opposition to the churches teachings that the Earth was at the center of the universe and that the sun and planets all orbited around the earth. Galileo was found guilty and placed under house arrest in 1633.
Secular laws eventually came into existence which greatly reduced the power of the church, it could not longer hold these inquisitions or commit the atrocities that it had done for centuries. In 1965 Pope Paul VI reorganized the Holy Office and renamed it as the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and it remains in effect today. Heresy or Blasphemy are also still in effect within the church in the 21st century. Governments are petitioned and pressured to keep these archaic laws to "Protect" the church but in the western world most have been repealed or combined into new laws such as hate speech.
In the 1960's there was a huge shift. Television. Documentaries explaining science, educating viewers what was fact and what was fiction. The science of being able to send man to the moon and even teaching subjects to the viewers had many people thinking, questioning and posing both philosophical and religious questions. The church suddenly changed it's stance, no more was there a head on argument with science. The new line was how science proved god or supported the bible. It was simpler to say God made science.

Back in time religion dismissed the growing sciences as it often totally contradicted the dogma and indoctrination of the church. Using heresy or Blasphemy laws that Prevented people from openly discussing, publishing or endorsing new evidence and theories to the world. For simply seeking to explain the natural world people were imprisoned or simply put to death.
Science was then later embraced with the adage science is not in conflict with god as God made it / did it etc. Now we appear to have come full circle again as some within religion are openly hostile and going to war with science. Often mega rich ministers teaching that because science does not have an scientific answer to a specific question, they do!
They have obviously been chosen by god to spread the word and contradict science. Only they can interpret the bible which of course shows that their denomination of Christianity is the right one chosen by god and it would seem they need your money to help spread the word of god so they can live in luxury that the common people are not worthy of to help buy them buy a new mansion, yacht, car or $5000 suit from John Phillips etc.

Science is not a belief system. it relies on others to verify its findings. And when that verification is proved it is fact. Science does not care if you do not believe it. Electricity will do what it does, gravity will do what it does and Darwin's evolution will continue to do what it does with or without any religious blessings, want, need or desire for it to conform to centuries old dogma.
Faith is faith. Science is Science.
If god did it or made it then prove it.
