A Violent Pope
And thou shalt punch
if insulted.....
if insulted.....
Not really what Jesus would have preached at the sermon on the mount.
His holiness The pope, The Bishop of Rome as head of the Catholic Church, The supreme pontiff, The holy father. The vicar of Christ. God's spokesperson, has let it be known that he will stand for any Insult to his religion, faith or his mother.
Whilst on a trip to the Philippines and being interviewed on board his plane ( well the plane Air-Italia provide for the pope free of charge) the pope was strongly defending the human right to free speech whilst referencing the killings of Journalists working for Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical magazine. "Everyone has not only the liberty, but also the obligation, to say what he thinks to help the common good," Pope Francis said." However, they should not do so if it offends people"
WHAT??? Freedom of speech is not only the liberty but also the obligation.... but not when it offends? The pope is a hypocrite there and then as THAT is not free speech, that is say what you wish but not if it offends people. Someone somewhere will be always be offended at something someone says.
He said: "If my good friend Doctor Gasbarri ( the pontiffs advisor and organiser) speaks badly of my mother, then a punch awaits him," Francis said. "It's normal, it's normal. One cannot provoke, one cannot insult other people's faith, The Ponftiff smiled and then pretended to throw a punch at Dr Gasbarri Stating " You cannot provoke", "You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others. There is a limit".
Ahhhh... The pope supports Freedom of speech ( "liberty and obligation")as a basic human right... Just not when the basic human right is used for liberty and obligation about his religion. About his Faith.
"The Vatican Radio reported that the Pontiff "gestured with a pretend punch" directed at Gasbarri -- "an action many journalists interpreted as a joke."
Pope Francis denounced the terrorists' killings and the idea that anyone -- as the France attackers apparently did -- could pretend to justify such violence in the name of God. The pontiff was very very clear on this subject, violence to defend the name of god is wrong... And yet he does the same thing and told the world that Dr Gasparri ( or anyone else ) would be punched should they insult his religion or offend his holiness.
“Nobody has the right to not be offended.
That right doesn't exist in any declaration I have ever read. If you are offended it is your problem, and frankly lots of things offend lots of people.
I can walk into a bookshop and point out a number of books that I find very unattractive in what they say. But it doesn't occur to me to burn the bookshop down. If you don't like a book, read another book. If you start reading a book and you decide you don't like it, nobody is telling you to finish it.
To read a 600-page novel and then say that it has deeply offended you: well, you have done a lot of work to be offended.”
Salman Rushdie.

The Vatican radio tried desperately to quell the words of the pope saying that is was a joke and the journalists knew it was a joke.. These same journalists wrote damning headlines on the hypocrisy of the punch with a lot of raised eyebrows and comments. Seems the journalists did not appear to get the joke MAYBE! JUST MAYBE!! THEY, like me were outraged at his actions and words.
The pope has stated many times quite unequivocally that violence is WRONG... PERIOD. Then he goes on to suggest he would punch his close friend and adviser should he be offended by his words if his mother or faith were insulted. Says it all really!!
After more than 2000 years the truth of the bible IS an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. The hypocrisy of the Pope and the church still continues today as fresh as when the bible was written by man. Religion continues to show that it demands special privilege. You can say what you want or wish as long as you do not say it about religion. His "punch" and comments are contradictory and hypocritical. He says it is fine to use violence if insulted , but then condemns the Islamic terrorists for using violence when they get insulted.
NO ONE has the right not to be offended. Offence is subjective and based on so many differing factors what might offend me might not offend you or vise - versa. But no one has the right to hurt or kill for being offended, unless you are religious then according to the pope is fine to utilize violence to address his feelings of being offended. Well I am offended by the hypocrisy the audacity and the self importance of him and his religion.... Only vengeful people with hate and those that are unable to explain their position rationally resort to violence. civilized people stand their ground and explain their position with logic, common sense and proof.... words that religion does not like to hear.
I have no doubt that 500 years ago people like me would be on trial for blasphemy and found guilty with barbaric consequences. We are fortunate to live in an age where secular laws prevail for the most part (see here for Blasphemy laws) it would appear that Pope Francis is missing the dark ages where the church was free to practice it's vile murderous barbaric powers and invade other countries that do not believe in the right god or put people to death should they be offended or insulted or, god forbid find a non-believer in their midst.
Organised religion will never change. That offends me and millions of others BUT we do not resort to violence. We educate, explain and talk to those that wish to escape such divisive archaic myths that try to control them and help them be free from religion if that is their wish. If not then they are free to carry on believing in their god... As long as they do not interfere in society, tell the rest of us what to do, how to live or resort to violence and threats to get their message across.
Religion will always be offended as it will not change its demands or nature. Freedom of speech is non negotiable in a democracy. Period.!!
